Happy Memorial Day 2011

Formerly known as 'Decoration Day,' the practice of decorating soldiers' graves commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. The first practice of this day began, after the Civil War, on May 1st, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. The first known observance was the following year in Waterloo, New York.

By 1882 it was called 'Memorial Day.' However, Memorial Day's official declaration, by Federal law, happened in 1967. After World War I, Memorial Day was expanded to include the observance to honor dead Americans from all wars.

Markley Motors thanks all who have served, and remembers those who have fallen, in service to our country.
